Useful tips
- Kitzbüheler Alpencard
Apartment Mariandl is registered with the Ferien Region Kitzbüheler Alpen. We may provide each of our guests with an Alpencard. The Ferien Region organises numerous events, excursions and entertainment opportunities where you will receive great discounts using this card.
Please make use of this. The cards are in the form of sticker sheets in the tray on the information board in the hallway. Pull off the large sticker, fold it in half and fill in your name. Stick the small stickers on your meldezettel (guest desk) and drop them in the grey letterbox at the town hall, to the right of the main entrance, as soon as you arrive and voila: your registration is complete.
See also The Hohe Salve Guest Card for more information. - Cash Pins
In Austria (and also in Germany) there has been a new regulation since 2018 for cash withdrawals from ATMs. Banks in these countries are allowed to charge “fees” for PIN transactions by non-resident customers. We have seen prices varying between €1.95 and €8.25 per transaction, regardless of the amount withdrawn. It’s hard to imagine: withdrawing a tenner and then being charged €8.25. Paying with pin in shops and restaurants is free of charge. - Vignette obligation
In Austria, vignettes are required on all motorways. But our house can be reached on the motorway (A12) without a vignette. Since 2020 there is no vignette obligation from the border crossing Kufstein to the exit Kufstein Süd. So take the Kufstein Süd exit and drive the last 10 minutes on the federal road (B171) via Wörgl to Hopfgarten. But remember: in the built-up areas of the villages, do not drive faster than 40 km/h anywhere, there are some nasty speed cameras. - Charging electric cars.
If you come to Appartement Mariandl by electric car, there are more than enough (fast) charging possibilities along the German highways to make this journey with few breaks.
Apartement Mariandl itself is not (yet) equipped with a charging station. Our car park is too far away from the house.
You can charge your car in Hopfgarten in the area directly behind the Bergbahn (Ski Lift) car park. This is only a two-minute drive from the appartement.
Here you can see the route https://maps.app.goo.gl/LbE1FsrFqzze14QT6
At this location you will find two 240kW (four 120kW) fast chargers.
► Charging can only be done using a local / Austrian charging card, or by credit card (so don’t forget to bring your credit card!). After finishing the charging session, a QR code appears in the display of the charging station, scan this code with your mobile phone to view the invoice online, or to download it as a PDF so that it can be used as a declaration for the lease car, for example. (Please note as the site is somewhat slow).
► These charging stations are NOT parking places.
Immediately after charging, please use the Bergbahn car park if necessary (this is free of cost).
When charging for less than 60 minutes, you only pay the KWh price. For longer than 60 minutes, 20 euro cents per minute is added.
► There are also some charging stations in the Bergbahn car park, but in our experience we have never seen them in operation. In summary, the electric car charging option when staying at Appartement Mariandl does not pose any significant problems. - Cheap dinner
Wörgl is not far away (10 minutes drive). In the Interspar restaurant you can eat daily (except Saturdays) from 16.00 to 19.00 buffet at greatly reduced prices (so-called: Happy-Hour). It’s all decent, not too much frills, nice choice and certainly not bad. Pay attention to the price indications above the buffets. Just look at the website of the Interspar. - Delicious dining
Tirol is known for its good cuisine. Often hearty meals (so-called Hausmannskost). Known are the (Wiener) Schnitzels, the Tiroler Gröstl and the Kaiserschmarren. But there is much more.
Among others, Gasthof Traube is known, right in the village. But a more rustic option is Gasthof-Restaurant De Lendwirt, just in the direction of Westendorf, turn right under the railway bridge into the rural area and then left after three kilometers (Dutch owner). Or for example Gasthaus Dorferwirt in Oberau. - We like to hear your opinion
